New Dodge Durango 2023: Redesign, Interior

Marc Miller July 31, 2025

New Dodge Durango 2023: Redesign, Interior. FCA and Jeep are going strong into the new season. The Dodge Durango 2023 will start the new life with the body-on-frame platform. Changes are so big and the next-gen model is coming. It is caused by other updates in the FCA’s SUV lineup. The carmaker has more space for the redesign of the new Grand Cherokee, which will debut as a three-row SUV. A full-size model is on the way, and it is a comeback of an old nameplate– Grand Wagoneer.

Let’s return to the Dodge Durango 2023 The changes on the model include a new platform and the new factory where it is going to be built. The reports say the vehicle is moving to the same place where Ram 1500 is assembled.

Engines and Specs

A 6.4-liter V8 Hemi unit is the most powerful one in the entire lineup. Durango is getting 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque for the current generation. Some rumors say that the next series could raise the output to 500 hp. However, the company is yet to confirm that.

Until this happens, we know the 3.6-liter V6 is going to be the main source of power. We already mentioned that the new 2023 Durango is going to be larger, but not large enough to carry only V8 units. So, a V6 is a good start with 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It also returns respectable towing abilities and fuel economy. The first goes up and the second gets worse if you opt for the 5.7-liter V8. This engine is good for 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The gas consumption raises to 17 mpg, while the engine sends the power to all wheels only. A V6 is also going to offer the RWD configuration. The maximum towing capacity will be 8,700 pounds (6.4-l Hemi), while there are also setups with 7,500 lbs and 6,200 lbs.

Dodge Durango 2023 Diesel

The new Durango could also get a diesel drivetrain. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 is capable to produce 240 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque for some other models in the FCA’s portfolio. The upcoming SUV would gain some extra mileage and towing capacity numbers for its fresh start.

Body-On-Frame Platform: Pros and Cons

The next-gen Dodge Durango 2023 is getting a whole new platform. It was about time for some changes since the carmaker had two similar models in the same class. Now, the BoF Durango is going to be a completely new story. The new architecture provides more strength and extends the durability of the frame. On the other hand, it costs more, so the price increase is something we will definitely see on the upcoming Durango.

With the body-on-frame platform, engineers will have more space for tuning the suspension. We expect to see the SUV with better off-road capabilities. Also, the towing capacity will get a boost without changing the engine lineup. The price of these upgrades is paid with more fuel. Also, the unibody SUVs are safer, with the entire body soaking the impacts. For the BoF vehicles, the energy spreads more on the body or frame.

Dodge Durango 2023 vs Jeep Grand Cherokee

Two mid-size SUVs by the same company were rivals at the same time. Not anymore. The Dodge Durango 2023 will now attract buyers who are looking for a more rugged SUV. Whatsoever, the lineup is growing, so the upcoming model could be larger and the rival to the Toyota Rav4. Still, the largest vehicle in the squad is coming the same year, with the Grand Cherokee test mules being spotted already. For the FCA the most important thing is that two SUVs are not such big rivals anymore. In that battle, Dodge was a loser, with sales incomparable to the numbers achieved by Grand Cherokee.

Dodge Durango 2023 is the Only SRT SUV

Top of the line model for the Dodge Durango 2023 remains the SRT. The SUV is not getting a Hellcat engine and its 707 hp. The vehicle stays at 475 hp by a 6.4-l V8 engine This SRT model was available for Durango and Grand Cherokee. It is a trademark of the Dodge’s vehicles, and the Jeep’s SUV was the only one with this badge outside the family. But, the FCA will keep the 6.4-liter engine for the Grand Cherokee. In the future, all performance-oriented models will be named Trackhawk, including these with 707 horsepower. Dodge Durango will continue to use the SRT badge.
